Question: Whenpeople die, must their bodies be left alone for three days?
Pema TrinleyRinpoche: It would be best to leave the body of the dead for three daysfollowing death. If someone dies today, and then tomorrow his or her bodyisbundled up and gotten rid of, this fault is tantamount to manslaughter.
In the past, Lama Rinpoche talked about many such cases. A monk at Litang died. Before hisdeath, he said,“'Youmustn’ttouch my body for seven days.” Other people saidthat since he was dead, why should they leave the body there for so long. Sothey cremated the body after three days.
On the seventhday, his soul circled around and around the bed on which his body had laid.Then his soul turned into a rainbow, and disappeared like a rainbow.
They went to askhis guru, and the guru said this was a person who "could tellreincarnations", he asked you not to touch his body for seven days becausehis soul went to the six realms to save all beings there. He wanted to returnto his body when that was done. But you had cremated his body, so he had to goto the Western Pure Land.

There is a girlin Lhasa, she came to see me when she was about sixteen or seventeen. She diedthe way the monk did. After she died, her body was really like a corpse, itturned still and hard, and remained just like a corpse for seventeen days. Thenher body gradually became warm, and she came back to life. Things like thishave happened.
弟子问：人死的话，一定要放三天吗？
白玛程列上师：人死之后最好是放三天。打个比方，今天人死了，明天就把他的尸体绑起来处理掉，这个有直接杀人的过失。
以前喇嘛仁波切讲过很多公案。在理塘有个和尚死了，他说七天之内你们一定不要碰我的身体。其他人说人都死了，尸体放那么久干什么，过了三天就把这个尸体烧掉了。
到了七天，他的神识围着放尸体的床不断地转来转去，后来他的神识就变成彩虹，象彩虹一样消失掉了。
他们去问其他上师，上师说，这是一个“说转世”的人，他要你们七天不动他的身体，是他的神识到六道里面救度众生去了，救度完众生他想回到他的身体里，结果你们把他的身体烧掉了，他没有办法就不得不往生，回到西方极乐世界去了。
喇嘛仁波切讲过这个公案。
拉萨有一个女孩子，大概十六七岁的时候来拜见过我。她也是像这样子死掉了。死了以后，她的身体真的就跟尸体一模一样，变得很僵硬，像死尸一样有十七天。后来她的身体又渐渐出来热气，然后又活过来了。有这样的情况。
