2、How to examine theGuru-teachings by Pema Tinley Rinpoche

First we must examine the Guru carefully. If one doesn’t know the least of the Guru, but act like the hog, eating whatever food in front, not caring whether it is clean or dirty, to act this way is meaningless. If one follows a Guru without first get to know his merits, it is not clear whether thus will result in good or bad.

One must scrutinize the Guru. Examine his linage, be it authentic or not? Is he an authentic Guru? Does he have good experience from the practice? After careful examination and know the Guru to be real good, then you could follow him. Follow him honestly and properly and then practice diligently, thus is meaningful. Look back at the gurus we followed before. Were they good or not? Was it of merit or wrongs? Reflect on the path you walked through and adjust accordingly. If the guru you followed now is not good, think carefully whether the future practice will be good or not? Will the practice bear fruits? Examine carefully and fully.

Concerning examining the Guru, you should reflect on the Gurus you followed before carefully--in reality, are they authentic or not? Are there real merits or wrongs? Is the future path of your practice becoming clear or not? Do you have confidence and control on the path of practice? Look carefully.
