What  is  a Guru?

A Guru is someone very precious like the wish  fulfilling jewel. Only one who has undertaken systematic study, contemplation  and practice; who has received complete empowerments, transmissions and pith  instructions can be called a Guru. He has immersed himself in diligent  practice, experienced various signs of accomplishments, and attained the  qualities of the grounds and paths (or the Bodhisattva). In this respect, the  saga is no different from the Buddha.

So are Gurus rare?

Yes, there are indeed very few.

Are there authentic qualified Gurus in Tibet  and India?

Yes, of course.

But are there lots of them?

Well, not really, it is extremely difficult  to become a qualified Guru.

It is important to exercise prudence when  following a Guru, because if we do so without carefully examining his  qualities, then we are wasting of our precious human life and only deceiving  ourselves. But if the Guru is qualified and his disciple has unwavering faith, then the disciple will truly receive blessings from the Guru.

“上师”是什么？

“上师”其实非常珍贵，就像如意宝一样。只有真正经过系统地闻、思、修，拥有完整的灌顶、传承和窍诀，真正修持过、有修行体验、获得了地道功德，和佛陀无有任何差别的圣者才能称之为“上师”。

上师很稀有吗？上师的确很稀有。

在藏地和印度有没有具相的上师呢？有。

那具相的上师有很多吗？没有很多，想有很多是很困难的。

所有人都需要谨慎地依止上师。如果不好好观察上师、不好好依止具相的上师，那就浪费了人身，自己骗了自己。如果上师具相，弟子的信心也具相，弟子就能真正获得上师的加持。
